More than 200 browser-based utilities that return a result instantly, with a native app alongside.
Everyone who works with a computer has a folder of small jobs: convert this image, format this JSON, decode this token, generate this QR code, work out this hash. Each takes about four seconds and there is no good place to do any of them.
The sites that exist are the worst part of the web. Three adverts before the tool, a cookie wall, a result you have to hunt for — and, on the ones that matter, an upload. Pasting a token or a customer file into a stranger's server to have it decoded is a thing people do daily without thinking about where it went.
More than 200 tools, free, that load and answer. Image conversion and compression, JSON and regex and diff, encoders and decoders, hashing, PDF splitting and merging, QR and password and UUID generation, CSS generators with live preview, network and DNS lookups — and a biology set covering sequence work and lab calculations.
Most of them never send your data anywhere. The work happens in the browser, on the machine it started on. That is the entire argument for the product: the file you are converting and the token you are decoding are frequently things you are not allowed to upload, and on most of the internet you upload them anyway.
Finding the right tool is treated as a feature rather than an afterthought — search ranks by relevance as you type, results are shareable as links, and the same engine sits behind a keyboard command palette, because someone who wants a hash generator wants it in two keystrokes, not two pages.
There is a native app alongside the web version for the same reason a calculator lives on a phone: this is a category of thing you reach for, and reaching for it should not require a browser tab.
MaffeiTools is ours, not a client's, and it earns its place twice over. It is genuinely used, and it is where new ideas get tested against real traffic before they go anywhere near a client's project.
It also grows in the direction people push it. The biology and biotech set — sequence tools, lab calculators, alignment, codon optimisation — exists because researchers were already using the general converters for work they were never designed for.
